Mark welcomes apology

ASSURANCES over his plans to stand for election have been welcomed by Mark Chiverton.

Mark has been at the centre of a row between his union, Isle of Wight Labour and the Isle of Wight Council, since being given an ultimatum to either stand-down as prospective parliamentary candidate or leave his seconded union post at the council.

Chief executive Steve Beynon said he regretted any misunderstanding or distress caused over the past week. Mr Beynon said he had also given a written assurance that Mark was not required to choose between his political campaign and his job at County Hall.

Mark described the comments as helpful. "It is important to move on and deal with wider issues at the council," said Mr Chiverton, who said he was overwhelmed by the support he received over the past week.

Promoted by Ray Collins, General Secretary, the Labour Party, on behalf of the Labour Party, both at 39 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0HA.
