Thanks to everyone on the Island who stuck with Labour, stuck with Mark Chiverton, and ignored the siren calls of tactical voting. Once again tactical voting on the Isle of Wight FAILED. The joint Labour and Liberal vote amounted to less than the Tory vote. Once again the Liberals have misled tactical voters that they could displace a Tory MP. It is clear that only voting Labour will have any chance of displacing the Tories. And now we watch in disbelief - along, no doubt, with most Liberal party members - as Nick Clegg cosies up to Cameron in the...

Dear Reader

Having previously contested the seat in 2005, I am proud to have again been selected as Labour candidate on the Isle of Wight in the forthcoming General Election. This is a great honour for me and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to build on the excellent result achieved last time.

I have worked in public services on the Island, and as a local and regional trade unionist, for more than 35 years. Throughout this period I have sought to work hard in the interest of people in the workplace, as well as on behalf of service...

The Isle of Wight's Labour Councillor, Geoff Lumley has today published the 'Alternative Budget' for Full Council that he now traditionally proposes each year in response to the Conservative budget proposals. For the last three years he has been the sole councillor to do this and he has secured increasing levels of support at each step. This year Cllr Lumley, in the unfortunate absence of a Labour colleague, has worked with members of the Council's Independent group to produce an alternative budget. The proposal will be seconded by Cllr Ian Stephens, Vice Chairman of the Council. Cllr Lumley also hopes...

ASSURANCES over his plans to stand for election have been welcomed by Mark Chiverton. Mark has been at the centre of a row between his union, Isle of Wight Labour and the Isle of Wight Council, since being given an ultimatum to either stand-down as prospective parliamentary candidate or leave his seconded union post at the council. Chief executive Steve Beynon said he regretted any misunderstanding or distress caused over the past week. Mr Beynon said he had also given a written assurance that Mark was not required to choose between his political campaign and his job at County Hall....

After a brief absence from the internet Isle of Wight Labour has a new website from Saturday 12 April 2008.
Island Labour have had two previous websites and were the first party on the IW to establish one - back in 2000.
Additionally Labour Councillor Geoff Lumley is the only IW councillor to maintain a Blog (see Links)- and has done so for three years now - making it just about the longest running Blog based on the Island.
The site is designed by the national Labour Party, but just about all...
